Rejected Checks in Argentina Reach Pandemic Levels

Buenos Aires, March 25 (NA) – Checks rejected due to insufficient funds in the first two months of 2026 reached levels similar to those during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. This is according to a report by the credit risk analysis center Fidelitas. The report indicates that in December, the number of rejected documents reached 97,612, a historic record. In January, there were 89,352, and in February, 86,350, well above the historic average, as reported by the Argentine News Agency. The study adds that «the ratio of issued to rejected checks is growing more astronomically, as the physical check is becoming a less used means of payment over time, but it remains very present in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)». Fidelitas warns that «the persistence of these levels in the first months of 2026 suggests that the pressure on the working capital of companies remains high». «While the average remained below u$s 30 million per month, in the last quarter it sextupled, exceeding u$s 180 million», the agency added.
